What Can Rehabilitation Do For My Joint, Muscle, and Post-Surgical Pain?

At Atlantic Medicine & Wellness, our physical therapy department provides individualized, one-on-one physical therapy rehabilitative programs for a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

Joint & Muscle Rehabilitation

Physical therapy may often be an effective treatment option for restoring optimal functional level, getting a patient back to all their activities pain-free, and, in some cases, may assist in avoiding future surgeries. Techniques such as stretching, massage, joint mobilizations, and therapeutic exercises are used to assess and alleviate problems such as limited movement of joints, muscle weakness or imbalance, and poor posture or alignment, all of which can cause or contribute to your problem or injury. Patient education is another important component of physical therapy rehabilitation. Upon completion of our physical therapy program, patients will understand the nature and causes of their conditions, along with strategies for effective maintenance and fall and injury prevention.

Joint, Muscle, and Post-Surgical Rehab

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Post-surgical physical therapy is used to restore patients to prior levels of physical function and enhance the healing process. Some patients may also benefit from participation in a pre-operative therapy program. The primary goal of pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation is to help patients return to being pain-free as safely and quickly as possible through all daily activities: work, competitive sports, and recreational activities.

Following surgery, patients are generally referred to Atlantic Medicine & Wellness by their surgeon and a post-surgical protocol guides the rehabilitative process and care plan. Post-surgical rehabilitation is used in a variety of instances, including:

  • Joint replacement procedures (hip, knee, etc.)
  • Rotator cuff repairs
  • Arthroscopic surgeries for knee, hip
  • Achilles tendon repair
  • Neck and back surgeries
  • ACL reconstruction
  • Nerve releases
  • Surgery to repair fractures in the arms and legs
