A Toms River native, Dr. David Koentop is a board certified Chiropractic Functional Neurologist, specializing in neurological disorders and sports rehabilitation. Throughout his profession as a Chiropractic Functional Neurologist, he has worked with a range of neurological complications, successfully treating patients experiencing dystonia, post-stroke recovery, vestibular disorders, cerebellar problems, hemispheric brain lesions, and other medical conditions.
Dr. Koentop earned his Doctorate Degree in Chiropractic Medicine from Life University with Summa Cum Laude distinction in 2013. In 2014 he went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Sports Health Science, with an emphasis in Sports Chiropractic, also from Life University. In becoming a chiropractic neurologist, Dr. Koentop first became a licensed chiropractor, completed 1,000 post-graduate hours of neurological study, course work, and residency-based clinical training, and passed a comprehensive certification examination administered by the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. Throughout this time, he worked with patients recovering from movement disorders, concussions, vestibular and mild traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, Chemo brain, and dyslexia.
Prior to joining the Atlantic Medicine & Wellness, Dr. Koentop worked as a team chiropractor in the athletic departments of both Life University and NCAA Division 1 Kennesaw State University. As a team chiropractor, he treated athletes across the spectrum of sports activities.
When Dr. Koentop isn’t treating patients with comprehensive chiropractic neurology, he is an avid hockey fan and player. Holding a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Aikido, and Jujitsu, he is also an avid and accomplished martial arts enthusiast. Additionally, he holds second-degree black sashes in four Chinese Kung Fu styles, including Northern Shao Lin, Ba Gua, Hsing Yi, and Guang Ping Yang Tai Chi.
